Arthur Edwin Volke
March 12, 1914 - Nov. 28, 2013
Arthur Edwin Volke passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Nov. 28, 2013, in Lake Havasu City, at the age of 99. He was born March 12, 1914, to Arthur and Kathryn Volke in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A World War II veteran, Arthur enlisted in the Army in 1940, and proudly served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre until the end of the war. After his honorable discharge he travelled the United States extensively hunting, fishing and camping. He returned to Milwaukee and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 35 years. During this time he hand built his own cottage on the shore of Lake Keesus and there he met his wife Barbara.
A Havasu Pioneer, he moved his family to Lake Havasu City on July 4th, 1970. He worked at McCulloch and helped build the J-2 Gyroplane. He worked various jobs over the years including Citizens Utilities, Best Western, Pioneer, and Island Inn Hotel and didn’t retire until he was in his 80’s.
For years he was an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, the Lake Havasu Theatre Guild, and the Lake Havasu Genealogical Society.
Arthur is survived by Barbara, his wife of 61 years; daughters, Suzanne (Scott) Long of Centralia MO, Michelle (John) Connolly of Lake Havasu City; sons Russell (Diane) Volke of Florence, OR, and Frederick (Melissa) Volke of Lake Havasu City; six grandchildren,
Christopher, Malia, Vanessa, Derek, Kirsten, Jake; and one great grandchild, Cameron.
Arthur will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church on December 7 at 10:30 a.m., with final resting at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens.
