LOUISE CHARLOTTE POWELL

Louise Charlotte Powell passed away on December 29, 2013 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at the age of 94. She was born August 1, 1919, in Burlington, Iowa, to her beloved parents, William Arnold Wilke and Abbye Lee (Smith).

Louise was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Lake Havasu City and Kensington Baptist Church in Maryland, where she lived for over 25 years before moving to Lake Havasu City in 2000. Louise did her undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and was also inducted into the oldest US academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.

The first female graduate of Stanford University’s law school, Louise had a long and distinguished legal career, including being admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court. She was also a Veteran and served in the Navy during WW II.

Louise is survived by her loving son, LeRoy (Lee) R. Powell, Jr., of Indio, California, as well as two stepsons Gary and Richard Bacchus.

A Funeral Service will be held at a later date.
Louise will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Ivan Bacchus, at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
