Obituary for Donald Reed Gaines

DONALD GAINES
Donald Gaines passed away January 19, 2014 in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the age of 84. He was born November 16, 1929 in Denver, CO to Lloyd Emile and Dorothy Evelyn (Johnston) Gaines.
Don, as he was known by his family and friends, was in the U.S. Army Military Police in Germany from 1946-1948. Don was with the Rawlins, WY. Police Dept. from 1951-1957 and resigned to accept a position as Special Agent with the Union Pacific Rail Road at Cheyenne, WY., and was later transferred to the Denver Office. Upon his retirement in 1988 he and his wife Marguerite relocated to Lake Havasu City, AZ .
Don belonged to the Elks, the Eagles, Shriners, Havasu Marine Corps League and the American Legion. He always had donuts in the freezer, enjoyed dancing, loved his children and his grandkids and had a great sense of humor. Don was the inventor of “trick or drinking”.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Marguerite Gaines of Lake Havasu City, AZ; son, Michael Don Gaines (Corina) of Castle Rock, CO; step-sons, Michael Anthony Rael (Kathy) of Morrison, CO and Randy Joseph Rael (Tamera) of Arvada, CO; daughters, Shelley Darlene Forsyth (Donald) of Arvada, CO and Marlene Jeanine Nelson of Lake Havasu City, AZ; brother, Charles Foote (Judy) of Timnath, CO; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Valerie Lynn Evilsivor; brother, Robert Foote and his best friend Jim Bassarear.
Services will be held at a later date at the Elks with Military Honors rendered and Lonnie Harris offering words of comfort.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Don’s name to the Hospice of Havasu Polidori House, 365 S. Lake Havasu Avenue P.O. Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.
