Warren Jay Smith, 88, passed away in Lake Havasu City, AZ on January 28, 2014. He was born on April 6, 1925 in Williston, ND to Earl and Cornelia (Shepard) Smith in Judson Township on the family ranch. He was raised and educated in Judson Township.
At the age of 18 he traveled to California and worked as a butcher. This is where he met his future wife, Betty Joyce. On July 2, 1945 they were married in Yuma, Arizona. Soon after they were married, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, transporting troops in the South Pacific during WW II. After the war, they moved to Williston, ND where they started a family. While working as a butcher, he attended the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, MT. He became a well known Auctioneer selling mostly in North Dakota and Montana, but also all over the US. He became involved in Real Estate and Construction. He loved horses and was active in the Saddle Club and rodeos. He was a member of the National Auctioneers Association. He was also a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and the Elks Club. In 1980, he and Betty began spending winters in Lake Havasu, AZ.
